Day 1
The Colonial Spanish Quarter Village guides clad in period clothing will wind you through more than one acre of archaeological artifacts. Don’t be surprised to encounter some friendly residents and craftspeople from the mid-18th century. Another highlight is a visit to the Government House Museum.
Day 2
Today, enjoy peaceful nature walks, boating, bird watching, fishing and kayaking at Fort Matanzas. But on this site in 1565, the Spanish in a struggle killed 250 French Huguenots over control of Florida. In 1742, they completed Fort Matanzas, a small fortified watchtower that guarded the southern entrance to St. Augustine.
Day 3
At Castillo de San Marcos, reflect on the forces that have shaped world history. The oldest masonry fort in the continental U.S., Castillo de San Marcos was constructed by the Spanish between 1672 and 1695. Later, the British, Spanish and Americans all made changes to it before it was retired as an active fort in 1853. The Castillo was proclaimed a national monument in 1924.
